[Classes 20 (iii) and 20 (iv)] [Also in Groups XIV and XXV] A fireproof structural element comprises metal frame members of inwardly directed channel section running along the edges of the element, an inner reinforcing layer including one or more panels of tightly packed slag wool or other suitable heat-resisting material with or without metal reinforcement, and outer slabs of moulded fireproof material, the slab or slabs on at least one side being moulded directly into the edge members and the reinforcing layer. Such elements are used in making fireproof doors, partitions, filing cabinets, safes and lift shafts. In Fig. 4 showing a sliding door, the edge strips are of double channel section with outer and inner webs A <5>, A<6>, the inner webs carrying reinforcing strips B<3> of H-section. The door body is formed of front and back slabs F of the moulded fire-proof material with an intervening layer G of slag wool, guide rollers H being carried by angle plates H<1> secured to the top of the door. Flat rectangular slabs formed as above described may be used to build up fire-proof walls, floors, ceilings and lift shafts. In the case of a safe, Fig. 6, or filing cabinet, Fig. 8, the side, back, top and bottom walls are each formed of inner and outer slabs M<1>, M<2> enclosing a slag wool layer M. The front plate O of each drawer of the filing cabinet is made of a single fireproof element whose edge strips are secured to the metal sides and bottom of the drawer, so that a fireproof front wall is formed when all the drawers are closed, spaced horizontal partitions being provided between the drawers.
