Abstract
1,083,425. Fire resistant doors. WESTLAND ENGINEERS Ltd. May 31, 1966 [June 3, 1965], No. 23808/65. Heading E1J. A fire resistant door comprises two series 2, 2A of cooperating flanged steel elongate elements 3, the elements of one series being retained in juxtaposition to its neighbours by cooperation of the adjacent flanges 5, 5A, and the two series of elements 2, 2A are mated one with the other by lips 4, 6 and 4A, 6A, to present a flush surface on both principal faces of the door, and pockets formed between the elements 2, 2A contain fireproof sheet material 7 e.g. asbestos or glass fibre blanket or wool, abutting the reverse side of each element and is retained in position against one series of elements by the lips 6, 4 of the other series of elements, the whole being retained in a channel frame 10. The elements are located by one or more rods 8 extending through holes in the elements and permit lateral expansion of the. elements. The interior of the door may contain crumpled tin foil as an additional heat barrier.
