681,745. Partition walls. ATTWOOD, C. W. May 16, 1950, No. 12194/50. Class 20(iv) Sheet metal building units 30, e.g. studs, having grooves defined by flanges 17 along each of their sides and formed of four channelled elements 30A, 30B, 30C, 30D welded together, are used in constructing temporary or permanent partitions, e.g. for use in offices, units used as studs being connected to similar horizontal units by means of angle plates 31 which are connected to the units by bolts 23 and nuts 18, Figs. 11, 12. Each nut 18, small enough in one dimension to enter a groove in a unit, has bevels 19 which allow it to be turned through a right angle while within a channel element, a spring 22 fixed to its underface pressing grooves formed in its upper face into engagement with the bevelled flanges 17. Panels 32, Fig. 2, are secured to the studs 30 by strips 33, which are clipped into the grooves of the elements 30C, 30D. Where a unit 30 forms a lowermost sill-member, Fig. 3, a strip 133 is used, a strip 333, Fig. 5, being used to close an open groove when a unit 30 is used, e.g. in a door opening. Strips 40, 42, Fig. 10, are used to fix a glass panel 132. A unit 130, Fig. 9, used in a corner position is modified in that only one side member 130C is used, this being offset by an amount equal to the thickness of a panel-member 32. Hinges of a door are fixed to a member 30 by means of nuts 18 and bolts 23, the covering strip being slotted to receive the hinge plates.
