Abstract
562,005. Pulley hoists. LINE, C. A. Nov. 3, 1942, No. 15485. [Class 78 (v)] A winch pulley block comprises a drum H mounted between the cheeks C of the block and operated by a handle. A fairlead sheave P is mounted on the same shaft M as the plurality of main sheaves N<2> of this bottom block. The rope T from the upper block passes first round the main sheaves of the two blocks and is then taken for several turns round the drum H and finally led by way of the sheave P over a sheave G carried by a brake lever R pivoted at r<2> to the cheeks C. The lever R is hollow to allow of the rope passing through it on its way to and from a reservoir. The rope may be held in the hand while gripping the lever R and by exerting downward pressure on the latter the rope is pinched between the sheaves P and S with braking effect. The handle is disconnectable from the drum H by first swinging a spacer out of action and then pushing the handle and drum shaft G axially to slide keys on the latter out of corresponding ways on the drum.
