Abstract

561,873. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SEARLE. A. M. Dec. 3, 1942, No. 17192. [Class 37] In a process of making rectifier elements by stamping &c. from a larger sheet, the seleniumcovered base-plate has those parts, at which the cutting operation will take place, covered with insulating material as by spraying on paint or varnish. Thus, in the case of discs with a central aperture, Fig. 2, the area 4 of and around this aperture 8 and around the place 3 where the outer cut will occur is covered with insulating paint, preferably after the selenium layer 2 has been converted to the rectifying modification. Thereafter a metallic counter electrode layer 7 is applied and the separate elements severed. In the case of rectangular, unperforated elements, the insulating paint is applied in strips along the lines of future subdivision. The counter electrode may be applied over the whole area of selenium and insulating strips. Specifications 526,482 and 561,872 are referred to.
