[Class 58] [Also in Group XXIX] A machine for spraying- or moistening granular and powdered material, such as seeds and cereal grain, comprises a centrifugal atomiser arranged beneath a cone q over which the material passes, the supply to the cone being the overflow , from a funnel-shaped member a which is so mounted that it controls, by the weight of the material in it, the supply of water to the atomiser and also the motor i driving the atomiser. The .member a shown has a restricted outlet, is carried by arms b pivoted at c, and is counterbalanced by a spring d connected to an arm e which turns with arms b. When the member a is depressed it opens a valve h, through links f, g, supplying water to the atomizer, and through similar linkage closes a tumbler switch in circuit with the motor i. Any deficiency in the weight of the material in member a causes spring d to actuate the links to switch off the motor and close valve h. The water is fed to the atomiser through pipe r, the nozzle r<1> of which directs the water to the central opening of an annular felt member s, the latter being fitted in an enclosure provided with a number of peripheral gaps. A substantially constant head of water is maintained by a float controlled valve x in a tank w provided at the top of the machine.
