Poison DISTRIBUTOR.
Application filed May 3, 1923, Serial no. 636,362. Renewed March 19, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVILLL-iir Sor-rrnrnm, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poison Distributors, of which the following is a specitication.
This invention relates to poison distributors, its object being to provide simple, eff cient and conveniently operated devices of this character which is peculiarly adapted for applying insecticides in powder form.

The invention consists in the novel con struction, adaptation and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of apparatus embodying my invention, shown in use. Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 1 with parts omitted. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical section of apparatus to illustrate the controlling valve. Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional plan view of Fig. 8. Figs. 3 and 4 are; shown to a larger scale than Figs. 1 and 2.
In said drawings, the reference numeral 5 represents a receptacle or reservoir for a powdered insecticide.
This reservoir is provided at diametrically opposite sides and at about its midheight with axially aligned trunnions 6 which are journaled in the upper ends of side memhers 7 of a stand. Said stand is provided with a base-plate member 8 which affords relatively large bearing surface upon the ground.
9 represents a bail connected to the trunnion 6. Secured rigidly by any suitable fastening means, not shown, to the stand base 8 is the lower member 10 of bellows 11 of known construction. The upper member 12 of said bellows is provided with a stirrup strap 13 to receive the foot of the operator. 14 represents a flexible tube connecting the bellows spout 15 with a nozzle 16. This nozzle and a portion of the tube adjacent thereto are secured to a pole 17 which serves as a handle whereby the position of the nozzle may be regulated with respect to the object upon which the poison is to be delivered.
At about its midlength the bellows spout 15 is provided with an opening 1.8 (Fig. ,8) extending through a nipple 19w'h1ch serves as a connection for an end of afienible tube 20 extending from a discharge nipple 21 provided at. the lower end of the reservoir 0.
The opening 18 above referred to is curved as shown in Fig. 3 so as to have its discharge end directed toward the outlet end of the spout 15. Below the opening 18in the spout 15 is a shelf .2, seeFigs. 3 and 1, which is spaced from the top wall 23 to provide a relatively small passage2 lbetween the shelf and said wall. At the shelf end most adjacent to the bellows is a rod 22 extending transversely through the side walls 26 and 27 of the spout.
I Rigidly secured to the rod 25 and within the spout is a blade 28 which serves as a controlling valve with respect to the passage 24 above the shelf 22 or a passage 29 provided below the latter.
One end of said rod is provided with an operating handle, such as 30 for example, and in proximity of the handle the rod is provided with an offset spur 31 which is engageable in a selected one of a series of holes in the wall 26 located concentrically of the rod axis. Only one of said holes, as

33 represents a spring interposed between the wall 27 and a collar 3t provided on the rod 25, said spring acting to releasably retain the rod spur in its engagement with one of said holes for maintaining the blade 28 in a desired position.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: Powdered insecticide or poison placed in the reservoir 5 is delivered by g'avity through the tube 20 into the spout passage 24. The powder thus delivered into said passage is blown by an air blast or a succession of air blasts created by actuating the bellows 11 whence the powder accompanied by air is discharged through the tube let and the nozzle 16.
The stream of poison and air may be directed by the operator holding the pole 17 in suitable positions. The amount of poison conveyed with the air will depend upon the strength or velocity of the air current subject to the adjustment of the air deflecting blade or valve 28.
This valve control is an important partof the invention and functions as follows: When arranged to be at or about the full line position in which shown in Fig. 3 the valve 28 serves to divide the current of air from the bellows into two branches which pass respectively through passages 24 and 29 above and below the shelf 22. hen the valve is swung upwardly the current of air passing through passage 2% is reduced, and by swinging the valve downward a greater proportion of the air stream is diverted into the passage 24, and when the valve is in its dotted line position 28 the entire stream of air is compelled to pass through said passage. The air passing through the passage 24 effects the ejecting of the poison which escapes from the reservoir through the opening 18.
The reservoir by being pivotally connected to the supporting stand therefor may be oscillated by the knee of the operator to facilitate the discharge of the poison from the reservoir.
The reservoir and the associated parts on the stand are capable of being readily carried by the bail 9 in one hand, and the pole and the tube 14 carried in the other hand.
hat I claim, is,-
1. In a poison distributor, the combination with a stand having a bail, a container for poison powder pivotally connected to said stand, said container having an outlet at the bottom thereof, an air pressure device connected to said stand, a discharge spout for said device, a partition element within said spout to provide two passages for air through the latter, a flexible delivery tube connecting the container with one of said passages, and adjustable means provided within the spout for regulating the effective sizes of said passages.
2. In apoison distributor, the combination with stand having a bail, a container for poison powder connected to said stand, said container having an outlet at the bottom thereof, a pedal actuated bellows device connected to said stand, a discharge spout for said device, a partition element within said spout to provide two passages for air through the latter, a delivery tube connecting the container with one of said passages, adjustable means provided within the spout for regulating the efi'ective sizes of said passages, and means for releasably securing the aforesaid means in predetermined positions.
