Abstract

[Class 23] [See also Group XXIX] A centrifugal apparatus for spraying or impregnating granular material with liquid comprises a vertical tubular shaft 2, through which liquid is supplied, having at its lower end a porous or perforated basket 1 and having externally a restricted housing through which the powdered material is fed past the basket. The granular material is fed down a shoot 31 into a hopper 17 and thence to the conical hopper 20 where it passes a cone or disc 18, provided with helical blades, adjustably mounted on the shaft 2 which feeds it past the sprayer basket. Within the basket 1 is a perforated cup 13 from which liquid is sprayed on to the felt liner 11 of the basket. The cup may be conical as shown or formed with vertical sides. The cup may be filled with breeze, open-meshed material or wires to assist in spreading the liquid. The basket may carry a saucer 27, the rim 24 of which may be turned up or down and notched to atomize any drip. Blades 25 may be carried by the basket to assist in swirling the material. The upper bearing may be provided with a cap to prevent access of leakage from the pipe 12. The bearings are provided with felt pads 32 to prevent access of dust and covered by plates 33, 33a, 34, 35.
