Abstract

560,635. Drawing rovings. WILSON, J., and GIBSON, W. Aug. 7, 1942, No. 11044. [Class 120 (ii)] " Fibro " (Registered Trade Mark) and other rove, of which the staple length is greater than that of the normal maximum reach of a web spinning frame, is spun dry in the frame, the use of the usual trough being dispensed with, by using a guide offset from the normal straight reach of the frame so that the rove, passing from the retaining to the drawing rollers and over the guide, forms two stretches angularly related to the normal straight reach and of a greater total length than said reach while the stretch between the guide and the nip of the drawing rollers is sufficiently greater than the maximum reach of the frame to allow the necessary drawing action. As shown, the guide 1 consists of a cylindrical metal tube having a transverse slot 2 by which it is fitted over the usual saddle 3 and annular grooves 6 in alignment with the retaining rollers A and drawing rollers 13. The width of the grooves is greater than the width of the rove 7 to allow for the traverse of the latter which passes from the retaining rollers around the top roller 10 to a groove 6 and then partly around the top drawing roller 11 to the nip of the drawing rollers ; the rove has a change of direction of fully 180 degrees and is subjected to a frictional drag in the groove while the drawing action is mainly or exclusively confined to the stretch between the groove 6 and the nip of the drawing rollers. Curved plates may be attached to the guide to keep the rove out of contact with the top drawing and retaining rollers.
