Abstract

560,242. Driving-wheels for endlesstrack vehicles. TYRE PRODUCTS, Ltd., and HIGHFIELD, G. N. Oct. 9, 1942, Nos. 14198/42 and 2569/43. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV]. A wheel for general use, but primarily a road wheel for a vehicle or a wheel or pulley for supporting or driving the track of an endless track vehicle, has a laminated wearing surface formed of tyre .beads cut from worn outer covers of pneumatic tyres and clamped together side by side. As. shown in Fig. 2, the wearing surface consists of a number of tyre beads d embodying the usual embedded wire hoops e and clamped between flanged rim sections f. The laminations may be arranged in two sets as shown so as to enclose a central air space g. Holes may be made in the rim to ' deliver air to the central air space. Instead of clamping the laminations as described above, slots may be made in the laminations to receive transverse clamping bars. In applying the invention to wheels having well rims, the well is filled in with wood sections h, Fig. 4, or with waste conveyer belting or other similar material.
