Abstract

559,748. Angle gauges. HILGER, Ltd., A., DOWELL, J. H., and STERNBERG, R. S. Aug. 14, 1942, No. 11430. [Class 97 (iii)] An angle gauge combination suitable for building up of the desired angles in conjunction with an autocollimator or other optical instrument consists of one piece with three or more operative faces including three or more angles and three or more pieces with two operative faces including a single angle. Fig. 1 shows such a set consisting of one piece having three operative faces including angles of 30 degrees, 60 degrees and 90 degrees and four separate pieces each having two operative faces including angles of 1 degree, 3 degrees, 9 degrees and 14 degrees respectively. By bringing one or more of the smaller pieces on to one or other of the faces of the larger piece any angle from 1 degree to 90 degrees may be obtained. Fig. 4 shows the setting up of an autocollimator 4 to the angle determined by the angle pieces 1 and 2 on the support 3. A beam of light from a lamp 5 is directed on to the exposed face of the angle pieces and the collimator is adjusted angularly until the reflected ray passes through the zero of the eyepiece scale. Another set of angle pieces includes one large piece having four operative faces including angles of 60 degrees, 75 degrees, 90 degrees and 135 degrees together with small angle gauges of angles 1 degree, 3 degrees, 5 degrees and 10 degrees. If an angle is desired which produces a reflecting surface directed downwardly and so cannot be used with the autocollimator a small angle piece is wrung on to that face and positioned so as to be half lapped so producing a face directed upwardly and applicable for use in the autocollimator.
