Abstract
559,605. Metal-heating furnaces. GIBBONS BROS. Ltd., MARLE, M. VAN., and WEBB, A. W. OGILVY-. Oct. 15, 1942, No. 14448. [Class 51 (ii)] A metal-heating furnace through which goods may be moved continuously by a conveyer comprises outer and inner hollow structures 10, 17 spaced apart by flues 18 through which the atmosphere from the inner structure or chamber is circulated by fans 32 after passing over the material to be treated in the inner chamber. The floor of the inner chamber comprises heat radiating combustion flues 20 supported on piers and spaced apart to provide passages leading from the side flues into the lower part of the inner chamber. The flues 20 are fired with liquid or gaseous fuel burners 16, adjacent flues being fired at opposite ends. The combustion products may be led through damper controlled passages 38 to flues 14, 15 or to the flues 18. The circulating atmosphere may consist of air, air and combustion products or combustion products only. The heat may be prevented from passing directly to the goods from the heat radiating flues 20 by providing heat insulating tiles 43, Fig. 4, resting on the flues as shown or by a shield of insulating material spaced from the flues.
