Abstract
559,512. Protective cut - out arrangements. WHIPP & BOURNE, Ltd. and WHIPP, I. T. L. June 7, 1943, No. 9075. [Class 38 (v)] In a supply system fed by a shunt-wound D.C. machine or like source and sectionalized by time-graded, electrically-operated and maintained overload breakers, and including, further, parallel sections of similar time-lag, the parallel sections are provided with means for increasing the time-lags when, on fault in one such section, the system-voltage may be so reduced as to cause release of all the other breakers. The .invention is shown in its application to the system of Specification 521,073 in which the overload relay 35 short-circuits at 25 the holding coil 20 which releases the breaker 16, 17 in a time dependent on the value of the external resistance 21 in the holding-circuit. Further contacts 36, 37 are adapted to be opened on overload by relay 35, but such contacts in the sound feeders remain closed whereby, when the no-volt coil 26 operates and closes contacts 27, the coil 20 is directly short-circuited and its time-lag increased due to exclusion of resistance 21. A contact 32 is changed over by the opening of breaker 16, 17 so as to isolate the contacts 27 and short-circuit resistance 22. A trip switch 28 and closing switch 31 are provided.
