Abstract

602,625. Protective cut-out systems. THEUNISSEN, F. J. M. Sept. 24, 1945, No. 24764. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] A protective system comprises a general circuit-breaker 1, 2, mechanically connected to a number of branch circuit-breakers a, b, &c., so that upon a heavy overload, or a shortcircuit on a branch circuit, the corresponding branch circuit-breaker only opens after the general circuit-breaker has opened. Upon overload, the contact lever 3 is moved by the coil 9 counter-clockwise about pivot 4 to open contacts 1, 2, so allowing spring 12 to rotate a bar 11 about pivot 22. Meanwhile, the lever 13 of the circuit-breaker of the faulty branch is moved up by the branch coil 17, so that the lever 13 and the bar 11 co-operate to cause latch 14 to trip. the branch circuit-breaker. A ratchet 7 engages the end 6 of lever 3, the return of which, under the action of spring 10, is retarded by a dashpot 8, until released by a nose 5, to ensure that the general circuitbreaker does not reclose before the branch circuit-breaker opens. Alternatively, the inertia of the general circuit-breaker may be relied on to.produce this delay. A limiting resistance R may be connected across the contacts 1, 2, to maintain the supply to the other circuits. Overloads within the capacity of the branch circuit-breakers are disconnected by thermal devices acting on the latches 14. The Specification refers also to reclosure of the general circuit-breaker by the opening movement of the branch circuit-breaker.
