Abstract

1,210,566. Automatic circuit-breakers. NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY ELEKTROTEKHNICHESKY INSTITUT. 6 March, 1968 No. 10856/68. Heading H1N. The "fixed" contact of an automatic circuitbreaker has a pivoted portion arranged to form a coil of at least one turn such that on heavy overload electrodynamic repulsion moves the pivoted portion against spring action to open the contacts prior to the functioning of the normal trip mechanism. Moving handle 22 to position A closes contact 17 on to contact 11 which is carried on a U-shaped member 10 pivoted at 13 on a fixed terminal member 9 and loaded by a spring 16. On normal overload the release device 5 trips mechanism 4 to move contact 17 to the open position shown, but on heavy overload (exceeding a value determined by spring 16) electrodynamic repulsion withdraws member 10 before contact 17 is tripped and the consequent arc across horns 12, 21 maintains the repulsion until the arc is suppressed by steel plates 6 and opening of contact 17. The spring 16 then returns contact 11 to the position shown. Handle 22 takes up position B when automatically tripped and must be moved to the manual-trip position C before closure to A.
