Abstract
559,002. Ammunition belts; metal articles. PERRY & CO., Ltd., and ARCHER, E. Sept. 7, 1942, No. 12571. [Class 92 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Relates to metal-link disintegrating ammunition belts for machine guns in which the cartridges form the hinge pins and of the kind in which each link has three open-ended sleeves, one 3 being opposite a gap separating the other two 1, 2 and the sleeves being provided with flanges such as la, 1b for securing their meeting edges. According to . the invention, the flanges of the sleeves are in alignment and are secured together and reinforced by a separate strip 6 attached as by rivets 7. Each link is formed from a metal blank with a leg on one side and forked legs on the other side, the blanks being stamped from a strip as shown in Fig. 6 to economise metal, the crosshatched portions of the figure showing the metal discarded. The sleeves 1, 2 are provided with outside projections 8 for feeding the belt and inside projections 17 for gripping the cartridges.
