Abstract
558,867. Reflection-reducing coatings for glass &c. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). July 21, 1942, No. 10201. [Class 97 (i)] Reflection - reducing coatings on glass or other coatings comprising salts are deposited by evaporating in a vacuum from a bead of the salt in a heated filament, the bead being formed from a pellet compacted of the salt only and in such a manner as to be porous and substantially free from closed chambers. As shown, the pellet is supported in a filament 15 heated by an electric current supplied through leads 16, and, with lenses 14 to be coated &c. is enclosed in an evacuated bell jar 10. The pellet is first heated to form a bead, and then a solenoid 18 is energized to release a detent 19 holding a pivoted shield 17 ; deposition on the lens surfaces occurs when the shield falls. Various forms of pellet and filament are described. The pellet may be formed by powdering the salts, placing the powder in a cylindrical hole drilled in a plate, and compacting it therein by pressure with the flat end of the drill used to form the hole. Specification 538,272 is referred to.
