Abstract
558,817. Pressure gauges. B. & R. PATENTS, Ltd., and BIRCH, G. C. R. July 7, 1942, No. 9437. [Class 106 (ii)] A fluid pressure gauge for giving high pressure and vacuum measurements comprises a Bourdon tube C, Fig. 1, communicating at its fixed end with the source of pressure, a flexible bellows D connected to the tube at its free end, a cage D' surrounding the bellows, and means for connecting the free end of the bellows with an indicating device. The Bourdon tube is provided with a screw-threaded boss C<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, to which the bellows is attached in a fluid-tight manner. The cage D' is screwed on to the boss in such a manner that at atmospheric pressure the free end D3 of the bellows will just bear against the end wall of the cage. An operating rod E extends through the end wall and is pivoted to one end of a lever E2 fulcrummed on a lug carried by the cage. The other end of the lever E<SP>2</SP> is connected by a link F' to one end of the sector arm F which operates a pinion on the indicating pointer spindle B2, the link being arranged tangentially to a circle coaxial with the fulcrum. The mechanism is adjusted to give a more or less uniform movement throughout the desired range on each side of a central zero position. On the pressure side the calibration will depend on the Bourdon tube construction and be independent of the bellows while on the vacuum side the calibration will depend almost entirely on the bellows construction.
