Abstract
558,752. Aircraft alighting-gear. MARTIN, J and MARTIN-BAKER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd July 15, 1942, No. 9820. [Class 4] A flexible member such as the cable 5, (Figs. 2 and 5) connected at one end to winding-up mechanisr inside the aircraft and anchored at its other end to a pivoted oleo leg 1 through the medium of a collapsabl radius rod consisting of two arms 6 and 7 connected by a knuckle-joint 8, is used first to disengage a lock ing catch member 9 in the joint 8 and then to caus folding up of the arms 6, 7 and the raising of the leg 1. The cable 5 passes over pulleys 46, 48 journalled in a forked end of the arm 6 and is connected to a pivoted lever 27 for unlocking the catch 9 and fo releasing the pressure of a spring 10 used for holding the arms 6, 7 together when in the strutting position In the application to a tail wheel 4b on an oleo leg 11 Fig. 7, the radius rod members, instead of having an offset knuckle-joint 8 as in Figs. 2 and 5, are con nected by pivoting the arm 6 between diamond shaped plates 7C bolted to the arm 7, tie-rods 24 used in compressing spring 10 to release its pressure on arm 6, 7 being pivoted to the corners of plates 7C.
