Abstract
557,999. Spring mounting for wheels. GOLDSTEIN [nee SHEARD], M. March 9, 1942, No. 3074. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] The wheel 6 is carried on one horizontal portion 2 of a cranked shaft, the other horizontal portion or portions 7 of the shaft being journalled in a bearing on the truck or vehicle member 1, the journalled end or ends being surrounded by a helical or spiral spring or springs 4, 5, one end 9 of which is fixed to the shaft and the other to the bearing member 1. Thus the shaft is' held resiliently in its normal position that is, the position which the shaft assumes when the wheel passes over a level surface, but when the wheel passes over inequalities in the surface the shaft rotates partially so as to absorb or cushion the shock. The crank parts 3 of the cranked shaft may normally be either vertical or inclined to the vertical, depending on the tension of the springs 4, 5.
