Abstract

297,858. Hill, H. June 27, 1927. Addition to 219,623. Spring wheels. - A resilient wheel comprises inner and outer rims spaced by springs certain of which act in tension and others in compression so that the load is supported by springs above and below the wheel-centre. In the construction shown, the outer rim 1 and the hub member 3 have telescopic spoke-elements 2, 4 respectively. The compression-springs 9 bear on the inner rim 11 and their outer ends are fitted in cradles 12 supported from the outer rim by plate-springs 22. The tension-springs 16, enclosed by sleeves 23 fitted in the springs 9, are connected to the outer rim by eyelets 15 pivoted on bolts 13, and to the inner rim by an adjustable screw-device 17, 18. The screw 18 has a tee-head of circular section engaging a chamfered recess 21 in the inner rim to prevent rocking-movement of the springs 16. To damp the relative movements of the wheel parts, a disc 24 secured to the hub is fitted with a felt &c. friction-surface 26 (which may be adjustable) to engage a flange 25 carried by the outer rim. The opposite side of the wheel is enclosed by a disc 28.
