[Class 82 (i)] [Also in Groups V and XXIII] Turbine buckets or other bodies of irregular shape are produced by preforming the powdered metal ingredients under pressure, heating the preform in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature sufficiently high to deoxidize the ingredients but insufficient to cause sintering, pressing the preform in a mould having a contour substantially identical with one of the surfaces of the body, said pressure being applied through a rubber of like flexible pad in direct contact with the preform, and finally sintering the moulded body. The powdered metal may be initially mixed with paraffin (to enable the metal to flow easily in the mould), dried, preformed in a mould comprising stationary parts 2, 3 by a movable plunger 4, removed from the mould, heated in hydrogen (the paraffin being thus distilled off), replaced in the mould, repressed and sintered. A rubber pad 7 may be placed on top of the preform, or underneath it, or both, or rubber may completely surround it. The pad may be secured to the base of the plunger. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the pad may be used in the preforming operation instead of in the final pressing, and that the invention may be applied to the making of rectangular bars, in which case no paraffin is used and the preforming operation may be omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the -Specification as accepted.
