Abstract
557,209. Hitch means. FERGUSON (MOTORS), Ltd., H., SANDS, W. J., and GREER, A. Feb. 27, 1942, No. 2587. [Class 103 (v)] In a construction in accordance with Specification 536,882 as shown in Fig. 3 the upper link, which in normal use is under compressive stress, would come under tensile stress (which might cause the tractor to rear backwardsly) if the connection 1 of the lower link gives way and the trailer front is obstructed by striking the ground; in order to avoid this the upper link is made incapable of tensile stress by being made of telescoping members 4, 5, the latter member coming against the closed end 6 of member 4 to allow the compressive stress of normal working to be produced. In modifications the link members have universal connections to the tractor and trailer, the linkage permitting up-and-down movement between the trailer and tractor, lateral swinging movement of the trailer, and also relative rocking movement between the tractor and trailer.
