Abstract

556,748. Feeding materials from hoppers. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T., and PAGE, A. E. April 16, 1942, No. 5024. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A vibratory control mechanism associated with a pneumatic control of a feed supply is characterized by the pneumatic pressure being released through a reed valve, said valve having connection to a feed plate which is vibrated in consonance with the said pressure release to deliver material deposited on the plate. As shown in the Figure, powdered material is fed from a hopper b on to a shoot c for delivery to a receptacle a which may be the pan of a weighing machine. The shoot c is mounted on flexible plates d one of which is provided with a button d<SP>1</SP> adapted to be vibrated through a diaphragm f by a button k<SP>1</SP> carried on a resilient reed valve k mounted on the open end of an air pressure cylinder j. Depression of a valve o admits compressed air by way of tube h to cylinder j so as to flutter the reed valve k and hence to vibrate the shoot c to feed the powder to receptacle a. The valve o may be operated manually or by the weighing apparatus associated with receptacle a. The note emitted by the reed valve gives an indication that material is being fed. The shoot may be arranged horizontally.
