Abstract
556,697. Spray producers. DEHN, F. B. (Fog Nozzle Co.). May 8, 1942, No. 6275. [Class 69 (iii)] A fire extinguishing nozzle of the type having a number of pairs of opposed orifices is arranged to give a combined spray pattern in which the density and size of the liquid particles are uniform throughout. As shown, a nozzle comprising two portions 2, 3 providing a chamber 10 and a number of opposed orifices 9 in the restricted part 7 is constructed so that the spacing and angularity of each pair of orifices is such that the point of impingement of the issuing jets is at a distance B from the inner surface of the orifices about double that of the diameter D<SP>1</SP> of the orifice resulting in a leaf-like spray pattern. The pairs of orifices are spaced around the chamber 10 such that the leaf-like spray patterns of each pair of orifices contact or impinge on one another at the greatest diameter b, c of the pattern when a single pattern will result. The diameter F of the chamber 10 should be such that it is eight to fifteen times that of the combined area of the orifices 9.
