Abstract

1,203,489. Shrouded gas burners. GEO. BRAY & CO. Ltd. 29 July, 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 39712/68. Heading F4T. A gas burner suitable for natural gas comprises a burner nozzle 1 having a plurality of gas orifices 3, 4 so dimensioned as to produce diverging flames which coalesce only in the region 9 of the gas orifices, and a shorud 7, the or each wall of which is shaped and dimensioned so that a given flame passes in close proximity to the peripheral edge thereof, the peripheral edge being at or slightly beyond the point of divergence 8 of adjacent flames. As shown in Fig. 1, the nozzle has a part-spherical projection 2 in which are formed eight circular orifices 3, 4 normal to the surface of the nozzle in a generally elliptical arrangement. The nozzle 1 is mounted in a socket 5 having an annular shoulder 6 to receive the shroud 7. In another arrangement, Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown) four orifices in the nozzle are arranged to produce a generally circular plan flame. In Figs. 9-13 (not shown) five orifices are arranged in a row in the nozzle to produce a flat flame, and in Figs. 14-18, eleven orifices in a single row with a spacing of 18 degrees between adjacent orifices produce a generally semicircular flame, the shroud in this case comprising two generally semicircular wall portions one on each side of the flame and two flat wall portions connecting their lower edges. A number of further arrangements are described but not shown, together with suggested dimensions for the orifices, nozzles and shrouds.
