Abstract

556,599. Automatic control systems for pumps &c. LONDEX, Ltd., and STERN, W. L. June 8, 1942, No. 7793. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XVIII] Fluid level.-In a system for indicating or controlling liquid level by electrodes co-operating with the liquid in which a D.C. source, and current only is available, electrolysis and polarization of electrodes is avoided by causing a converter of any kind to be started on contact between liquid and electrode to furnish A.C. to the electrodes. As shown, current from a battery B through an electrode E1 may actuate a relay R to energize a vibrator inverter from the battery through contacts r. The alternating current supplied to electrode E2 energizes relay S which operates a pump motor starter W through contacts S1, de-energizes electrode E1 at contacts S2, and maintains the supply to the inverter at contacts S3. The relay S de-energizes when the liquid leaves electrode E2 and the system restores. In a modification, the relay R may start the pump motor which drives also a rotary generator of A.C. An additional pump or pumps may be controlled by a time delay relay as in Specification 556,484. Specifications 449,453 and 539,827 also are referred to.
