Abstract

551,847. Hydraulic accumulators. CHRISTENSEN, A. H. H. May 26, 1942, No. 7125. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic accumulator is connected in the supply line from an electrically driven pump to a press or other apparatus, and is constructed, so as to maintain a constant pressure in the supply line, of a vessel 6 comprising an upper part filled with pressure liquid and connected by an outlet 1<SP>1</SP> to the supply line. A diaphragm 11 separates the liquid from the lower part 23 of the accumulator which is connected by passages 21, 22 to a compressed air-chamber 24, which is at the pressure desired for the hydraulic liquid. A spring-pressed stem 13 is arranged below the diaphragm 11 and is fitted with a disc 14 which contacts with the diaphragm 11. If the pressure in the liquid gets too high the diaphragm 11 is depressed and a switch 31 is actuated by descent of the stem 13 to de-energize the pump motor so as to limit the pressure. When the pressure falls the rise of the stem 13 causes energization of the motor. The disc 14 prevents damage to the diaphragm 11 in case the accumulator fills accidentally with liquid, and it also supports the diaphragm. A disc 7 mounted so as to allow of flow of liquid prevents damage to the diaphragm if the liquid is forced completely out of vessel 6.
