Abstract

The emergency supply generator and control system consists of a diesel engine driving a generator coupled to the 220V 50Hz mains network. Failure of the mains network is detected by the absence of voltage or frequency and initiates generator switch-over from synchronous to asynchronous operation. When the supply returns, the generator is switched automatically back to synchronous operation. The switch over is achieved using a series of interdependent relays and contactors, and may also be carried out manually. The low voltage supply is obtained from a battery charged from the mains network.
