Abstract
556,436. Casting processes. HATFIELD, W. H., and BRIDGE, J. F. March 31, 1942, No. 4305. [Class 83 (i)] Segregates and cavities in ingots and other castings are prevented by directing a jet of oxygen on to the liquid metal during or immediately after pouring to produce a rise of 30 to 300‹ C. in the temperature of the molten metal. A stream of oxygen may be directed by rubber and steel tubes, on to the steel in the feeder head of an ingot mould to raise its temperature to 1658‹ C. Specification 419/05, [Class 83], is referred to.
