555,566. Refrigerators. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 18, 1942, No. 13227. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1941. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXVI] A sealed joint particularly for a top metal cover 19 of a domestic cabinet having a top opening for the insertion of the cooling unit, closed by a plug 16a, comprises a hollow rubber &c. packing ring 23 having a relatively deep and thick inner rib 27 to bear on the cabinet top and an outer rib 28 to bear on the inturned flange 31 of a metal strip 29 for concealing the packing ring. The packing ring is held by friction on an inturned flange 21 of the cover, the edge of the flange preferably being formed with spaced projections entering, slits in the grooved wall of the packing ring. The base flange 31 of the cover strip 29 is preferably arched as shown in Fig. 2 to improve the seal, or it may be inclined slightly as shown in Fig. 5 so that the upright part of the strip is forced inwards as the cover is secured. The rear edge of the cover may be held by strips 32 secured to the top wall of the cabinet and the front edge by straps 33 secured by screws to nuts fixed inside the cabinet wall and cover.
