Abstract
554,585. Fire-extinguishing. CARDOX (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd. May 4, 1942, No. 5980. Convention date, May 19, 1941. [Class 47 (ii)] A portable fire-extinguisher comprises a transportable cabinet 10, one or more containers 17 for carbon dioxide, a device adapted to discharge the carbon dioxide into an enclosure in which the cabinet is placed, and heat responsive means exposed to the temperature of the enclosure to effect the discharge. The cabinet is of dimensions permitting passage through the usual doorway, and has castor wheels 11. The carbon dioxide containers are preferably low pressure and are surrounded by heat insulation 20. A discharge pipe 21 leads to a valve actuated by a solenoid energised by a relay actuated by a heat responsive device 45 of known form carried by a telescopic support 46. The discharge nozzle is mounted in the top wall of the cabinet and is described in Specification 549,441, [Group XXIX]. A blower 57 circulates the extinguishing atmosphere, drawing it in at 60 and discharging it upwardly by an outlet pipe 61. The vapour space at the top of the containers contains a cooling coil 30 automatically refrigerated on a predetermined pressure rise A pipe 24 leads from the vapour space to a safety blow-out disc and a pair of automatic " bleed-off " valve devices 29 set to different pressures. In a modified apparatus the accessory devices are above the storage receptacle.
