Abstract

553,832. Thermionic cathodes. BARTON, F., and MAYER, C. H. Dec. 3, 1941, No. 15581. [Class 39 (i)] A thermionic cathode is formed by applying to a refractory core such as tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum or an alloy, at least two successive coatings of different metals, heating in an inert gas to alloy these metals, and finally coating with a rare-earth compound. The coatings may be copper and nickel and if a third layer such as chromium is deposited, the heating may take place in two stages. The coating may be electrolytic.
