Abstract
553,490. Apparatus for handling dispersions such as spinning solutions. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Oct. 1, 1942, No. 13770. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1941. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] In withdrawing from a series of supply tanks dispersions which undergo change on keeping, e.g. viscose or other spinning solutions the residue normally left in each tank with the object of avoiding the entraining of air in the liquid is reduced in volume by withdrawing it at a controlled, relatively slow rate and discharging it into a stream of the dispersion being withdrawn from a second supply tank. In the example illustrated tanks 1-6 are emptied in series through taps 15-20 under suction from a pump 22 and if desired under pressure from a pressure air line 7a. The last portions of the contents of any one tank are withdrawn slowly through one of the cocks 26-31, while the next tank is emptying at its normal rate. The residue left in each tank is thus reduced to a minimum. Alternative connections are described.
