553,476. Plywood. CLARK, G. M. (United States Plywood Corporation). June 29, 1942, No. 8925. [Class 145 (ii)] A plywood panel has one or both of its exposed surfaces formed with a multitude of closely-spaced grooves 4 extending generally parallel with the grain and preferably of unequal depth. The grooves may be formed by any suitable means, such as planer knives with irregularly serrated cutting-edges or an assembly of thin disc-like cutters or saws. The purpose of the grooves is to prevent the formation of surface cracks due to shrinkage and also to prevent adjacent panels on walls from separating at their abutting edges. The attachment of the panel to a surface by adhesive is facilitated by the grooves.
