Abstract

553,425. Rotary drying-apparatus. BUELL COMBUSTION CO., Ltd., and TYLER, G. B. April 9, 1942, No. 4689. [Class 34 (ii)] In an apparatus for drying granular material by means of hot gases in a substantially horizontal rotary drying drum, one or more centrifugal or cyclone dust separators are built into the collecting casing into which the dried material and hot gases are delivered from the outlet of the drying drum so that the hot gases pass directly into the inlet of the separator or separators without leaving the collecting casing. In the arrangement shown the materials fed into the rotary drum A at the inlet g are heated by the hot gases from a furnace H, and the discharge end of the drum spigots into a fixed section I of the collecting casing K, which has a lower converging section L and outlet l for receiving and discharging the dried material. The hot gases carrying the finer particles pass directly into four centrifugal dust separators M mounted in the upper portion of the casing K, the clean gases freed from dust passing into the trunk N, while the separated particles subsides into the lower conical portions m<2> of the separators, from which they are discharged when sufficient dust has accumulated, past the counterweighted flap valves mt into the convergent portion L of the casing K. A worm conveyer Q may be provided for conducting the dried material away from the outlet l. In a modification the casing K is provided with only two separators, and the flat valves m<4> are replaced by rotary valves. Specification 461,461 is referred to.
