Abstract
553,245. Knitting. LIPSON, J., and LIPSON, N. Nov. 20, 1941, No. 14919. [Class 74 (ii)] A sock is formed from two or more threads all of which are knitted throughout the sock and one of which is knitted into longer loops at selected places, e.g. in the heel, toe and sole portions. The sock is knitted upon a circular machine having sinkers 4, 5 with butts 4', 5<SP>1</SP> arranged to be operated by pattern controlled cams 15, 16 so that the sinkers can be projected further at selected times. To provide for the formation of longer loops during reciprocatory knitting in the making of the heel and toe pouches, a cam 15<SP>1</SP> is arranged to engage the butts of the sinkers corresponding to the heel and toe needles Each sinker has a nose 7 so disposed that the thread L to be knitted into the longer loops is engaged on the upper sloping surface of the nose and the other thread S or threads can be received in the throat beneath the nose.
