Abstract
553,151. Diamonds &c. tools. MEESON, E. L., and MEESON, J. I. June 26, 1942, No. 8778. [Class 124] In a diamond or like tool for dressing grinding wheels and the like, a slug 7 carrying one or more diamonds is secured in an axially divided contractible collet 5 which is pivotally mounted within a holder 2, and means are provided for adjusting the collet and slug to any desired position between axial alignment with the axis of the holder and a predetermined maximum angle thereto. The collet 5 may be mounted on a transverse pin 6 between a pair of jaws 4 on the holder 2, or it may have universal motion by being pivoted on a block itself pivoted in the holder. Two members 8, 9 are loosely mounted on the collet 5 and the head 3 of the holder, respectively, and have co-operating inclined surfaces 10 whereby relative rotation varies the angular position of the collet and slug about the pin 6. The collet 5 and the member 8 have coaxial engaging surfaces 12, and the assembly is locked in position by a nut 14 screwing into the head 3. Washers 16 of fibre or the like are provided, and the pin 6 is inserted through a hole 8a. The adjacent edges of the members 8, 9 may be calibrated.
