552,745. Balancing airscrews. DANIELS, A. O., GERMAN, H. V., and HORDERN-RICHMOND AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1941, No. 13389. [Class 114] Static vertical balance of an airscrew blade is obtained by the adjustment about the axis of the blade root of two equal balance weights. In one form, Figs. 3 and 4, two quadrant weights 22, 23 are angularly adjustable about the root of the blade 10 and clamped by a nut 13 threaded upon an axial tube 11 containing weights 24 for the adjustment of the horizontal balance. Serrations on the adjacent faces of the weights 22, 23 and a base plate 18 lock the weights against movement. If desired a third weight may be employed to partially balance the blade, the two weights 22, 23 being used for a final fine adjustment. Instead of the weights being in the same plane they may be in adjacent planes.
