Abstract
552,697. Conveyers. GARNETT & SONS, Ltd., C., and BARKER, A. P. Dec. 8, 1941, No. 15787. [Class 78 (i)] A device for maintaining the band or belt, of a conveyer in its medial position comprises one or more pairs of wheels &c. 6 carried by brackets 5 mounted on springs 9 attached to a common base piece 10. The brackets 5 have pintles 4 which can both slide and turn in a fixed framework 2, the pintles 4 preferably being off-set relative to the axles 8 of the wheels 6. The piece 10 is of U-shape and encloses the edge of the belt so that when the latter moves laterally beyond its proper limit it forces the U-piece along with it and turns the wheels 6 about their pintles 4. As the springs 9 press the wheels 6 on to the respective surfaces of the belt 1 this steering of the wheels 6 imparts a lateral pressure on the belt tending to restore it to its medial position. A pair of wheels 6 may be located near each edge of the belt, the two U-pieces 10 then being connected by a pivoted link 11. In a modification the framework 2 is journalled by connecting arms about the spindle of a near-by idler roller, and the link 11 may have a curved under face to rest on the belt 1 and be weighted to act as a tensioning member for the belt.
