Abstract

552,655. Coating surfaces by spraying. HUNTLEY & PALMERS, Ltd., VICARS, Ltd., T. & T., and RABONE, H. M. Dec. 13, 1941, No. 16105. [Class 95] [Also in Groups VI and XXIX] In apparatus for coating biscuits or other articles with oil or other liquid by scattering the liquid in droplets by flexed bristles or elastic strips, the liquid is picked up from a trough 5 by a roller 7 fitted with an adjustable doctor roller 8, transferred to a roller 10 and removed therefrom by a scraper plate 11, and scattered by a rotary brush 3 or like member the bristles or blades of which are flexed on the scraper plate to produce a flicking action. The biscuits 1 or other articles may be carried on a reticulated conveyer 2 which in its return path is cleaned by brushes &c. 16 delivering surplus liquid to a trough 17. The doctor roller is eccentrically mounted for adjustment and provided with a scraper blade 9, and the rollers may be moved out of the liquid in the trough and the plate 11 may be moved out of the path of the brush.
