Abstract

143,289. Sonsthagen, A., and Harberd, E. H. Feb. 11, 1919. Rotary apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for spraying more or less viscous material, of the kind in which the material to be sprayed is spread in a thin layer upon rollers and transferred therefrom by means of a rapidly-moving body provided with points, teeth, or surfaces, from which the material is projected by centrifugal force. The apparatus is stated to be applicable for ornamenting sweetmeats, chocolate-refining machines, &c. The material to be sprayed, e.g. sugar and honey, is contained in two hoppers b, c<1>, Fig. 3, within which rotate drums c, d on which the film is formed by means of scrapers. The film is removed first from one roller d, and projected on the roller c, from which it is projected in the form of spray by means of a rotary drum, band, brush, &c. e provided with points, teeth, or knife-edges and rotating at a speed greater than that of the drums c, d, the drums being so adjusted that the points &c. contact with the film, but not with the drums. The material may be sprayed by means of a brush, in which case the bristles may be restrained by a stop f, Fig. 4, immediately before contact with the film. Fig. 3 shows the apparatus applied for spraying material on to the rollers x of a chocolate-refining machine. Instead of a brush, the body may comprise a number of surfaces on spiral lines, or a number of sharply pointed teeth; or it must be built up of thin toothed disks, or may be provided with, or built up of, a number of knife-edges.
