Abstract

552,506. Hydraulic dampers. JOHNSON, E. W., and VANDERVELL PRODUCTS, Ltd. Oct. 8 1941, No. 13013. [Class 108(iii)] In double acting hydraulic dampers with two opposed coaxial pistons 30, 31 drawn together on a sleeve 32 by a spring 81 so as to engage the side members 57, 58 of a forked operating lever and in which the sleeve moves over a fixed metering rod 42 as in Specifications 541,179 and 541,201, the adjacent ends of each piston head are flat and parallel to the direction of reciprocation when they are embrased by the forks so that the pistons cannot rotate. The fork ends carry rollers 63 which bear against shoulders 61 on the pistons. The piston heads 70 are secured to the pistons by screws and their flat sides engage between the sides of the fork rollers 63 or the sides of the base 64 on which the rollers are mounted. One lateral extremity 73 of the pair of flats is spaced further from the piston axis than the other extremity 72 so that the pistons can only be assembled with the extremities 73 downwards.
