Abstract
552,399. Wet separating. RAKOWSKY, V. Oct. 2, 1941, No. 12759. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1940. [Class 82 (ii)] A process of separating solid materials of different specific gravities in a suspension of intermediate specific gravity comprises flowing the suspension horizontally through the separating tank and maintaining a differential between the specific gravities of the suspension at different levels by controlling the rate of flow. In the apparatus shown the suspension is introduced through a shoot 6 and the solids through a shoot 9, overflowing suspension being removed along with the lightest solids through a channel 7. The heaviest solids are removed by scrapers 2<SP>1</SP> and intermediate solids along with some of the suspension through a vertically and longitudinally adjustable overflow 8 having a telescopic or swivelling inlet 8", and to which air is also admitted. Baffles 23, 24, a water inlet 25 and a water outlet 26 are also provided. The separated solids are washed, and the recovered suspension is reconditioned for reuse. In modifications the separating tank may be of uniform depth except at the inlet end or throughout.
