Abstract

551,198. Ventilators. DAVIES, L. G. Nov. 25, 1941, Nos. 15191/41 and 700/42. [Class 137] A ventilator, which is light-proof when made of opaque material, comprises at least two rows of overlapping louvres 10, 11 of S or Z shape either with straight or curved surfaces, the louvres of each row, when the ventilator is horizontal, providing channels 12 overhung by the lips of adjacent louvres for the collection and removal of water. The overhanging lips of adjacent louvres do not penetrate into the channels, and the louvres of successive rows are spaced apart to provide clear curvilinear passages for air. The air extraction effect may be increased either by projecting baffles 15, or by extending some of the louvres to form peaks 16, 17 well spaced apart. With the ventilator inclined, the water drains towards one end of each channel, and runs off under hoods which prevent passage of light. In Fig. 10, the ventilator is built around a central plate 32 which forms a support for the louvres 33, and which has slots 35 to provide spaces through which the air can pass, the structure being reinforced by stiffeners 37.
