Abstract

550,064. Back pedalling brakes. PERRY & CO., Ltd., and URRY, W. C. Oct. 9, 1941, No. 13033. [Class 136 (ii)] A roller retaining cage 11 is provided for the rollers 10 of the one-way clutch which prevents backward rotation of the actuator 4 in back pedalling cycle hub brakes of the kind described in Specification 532,740 in which internal bands or sleeves 2, 3 are expanded into engagement with the hub 1 by movement of an actuator 4 which is forced axially, through the medium of cam surfaces, by backward rotation of an operating element by the chain sprocket. The cage 11, in the form of an annular band, is provided with openings through which the balls cannot pass but can project sufficiently to engage the serrated inner surface of the expander of the brake band 3. The balls are forced outwards by cam surfaces 13 during backward movement of the part 12 of the actuator 4. The cage 11 is bent inwards at 15 to prevent the roller from riding underneath it.
