Abstract
549,866. Sewage sludge disintegrator. PORTEOUS, W. K. Aug. 13, 1941, No. 10304. [Class 59] A disintegrator for sewage sludge and like material comprises a rotary cutter g formed with helical blades v having their cutting edges lying on a cylindrical surface to co-operate with radial blades m mounted on a base a on a carrier consisting of upper and lower annular plates n, o spaced apart by distance pieces p. The wall of the base a is formed with openings r covered by plates s fitted with screws t by which the blades m may be adjusted in radial slots in the plates n, o. The electric motor and reduction gear for driving the cutter shaft f are arranged in the upper section h of the disintegrator casing, the middle section c being formed with a lateral sludge inlet d leading to a helical passage 11 open at the bottom towards the spaces between the tops of the helical blades v. A radial blade 12 fixed at the end of the passage 11 co-operates with the tops of the blades v to produce a preliminary disintegration of the sludge which is forced by the blades v through the spaces between the blades m to arcuate apertures q in the plate o communicating with a lateral outlet b in the base a.
