549,646. Centrifugal separators. VOKES, C. G. May 27, 1941, No. 6805. [Class 23] [Also in Group XXVIII] Apparatus for separating dust from air or gases comprises (1) a centrifugal stage in which heavy dust is separated and collected, e.g. by passage of the gas in a circular path 3 and by a lip 5 deflecting the dust into an air-tight drawer 6, (2) impact of the partly cleaned gas, conveyed through passages 8, on the surface of an oil bath and (3) passage of the air-carrying entrained oil through a filter, e.g. a pleated wire screen filter containing scrubbing material. The oil bath may be rectangular, the gas being delivered by four centrifugal separators over the four sides; the oil bath may be partitioned; more than one centrifugal stage may be employed; the velocity of impact on the oil and passage to the filter may be controlled by shutters etc.; gas flow straightening means, and a final fine filter may be provided.
