Abstract

549,320. Heating liquids electrically. HADDAN, R. (Moffats, Ltd.). Sept. 5, 1941, No. 11383. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Liquid in a pail 36 is heated by an immersion heater 30a, the switch for controlling the heater being actuated by the movement of a pivoted lever 14 when the pail is hung upon its end. A fixed bracket having side plates 2 and top 3 carries an insulating block 6 with contacts 7 engaged by resilient contacts 23 carried by an insulating block 21 upon an arm 14 pivoted at 15. The heater 30a of the sheathed wire type is connected to the contacts 23 by wires passing through a depending tube 28. A spring 32 normally separates the contacts, but the weight of a pail 36 and liquid rotates the lever against the action of the spring to close the contacts and energize the heater. The spring 32 is adjusted by screw 38 to allow the contacts to open before all the liquid is evaporated. To obtain snap action of the switch, the lever 14 carries a spring 39 with roller 40 which snaps over a fixed projection 41.
