Abstract

752,468. Thermal switches. BESCOL (ELECTRIC), Ltd. Feb. 24, 1955 [Feb. 26, 1954], No. 5657/54. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XI] A thermostatically controlled immersion heater is adapted for use in washing machines and other water containers having downwardly extending terminals or contact pins. As shown, a sheathed wire heating element 2 has its ends secured in an inverted cup-shaped casing 3 into which an open end of a tube 6 containing a bimetallic strip 7 projects, the other tube end being closed by flattening a,nd welded to the sheath of the element 2. The bimetallic strip is secured at one end by being clamped between the flattened sides of the tube 6 and its other end projects into the casing 3 where it engages an insulated extension 14 of a spring contact blade 11 mounted on an insulating plug 8 carrying terminals 9.
